Former federal lawmaker, Ben Murray-Bruce, has challenged the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, 2027 presidential candidate, Donald Duke, for describing the continuing Lagos-Calabar coastal road mission as unbuildable.
DAILY POST reviews that Duke, a former governor of Cross River State, made the comment throughout an interview, arguing that the swampy terrain in Bayelsa State would pose vital challenges to the development of the proposed freeway.
According to him, the mission would require the development of quite a few bridges to navigate the swampy areas.
“The Lagos-Calabar Road is unbuildable. You can’t even undergo Bayelsa. Bayelsa is a swamp. Even Yenagoa, the capital, is a swamp.
“You will probably have to build about 100 or 200 bridges to go through those swamps,” the previous governor mentioned.
However, reacting in a submit on his official X deal with on Friday, Murray-Bruce shared {a photograph} which he claimed confirmed Duke praising the coastal road vision whereas they stood collectively on the shoreline.
The former senator’s submit challenged Duke’s present place on the feasibility of the mission.
He wrote, “Some years in the past, you and I travelled alongside the stretch of the shoreline the place this road now runs, and I clearly keep in mind your reward for the vision behind it. That is why your current feedback stunned me.
“Yes, the Coastal Highway is pricey. We agree on that. But nothing of lasting worth on this world is affordable or free. Great nations are constructed by leaders keen to make daring, expensive investments that can serve generations but unborn.
“Mr. President dedicated to funding this mission, and he’s holding that dedication. There is not any funding shortfall. The work is progressing, and the standard of development is second to none.
“When Governor Douye Diri counseled the road, he was not talking as an area champion; he was talking as a statesman who recognises infrastructure of worldwide commonplace when he sees it. I agree with him fully.
“Donald, I perceive that you’re operating for president, and that your assertion is political. That is the character of the season, and I respect your proper to make your case to Nigerians. But we should be cautious by no means to undermine a mission of nationwide significance, or the President delivering it, merely for political benefit.
“When mankind went to the moon, it was neither cheap nor free. But it was necessary. So is this road”.
