African Democratic Congress ( ADC) presidential candidate, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has mentioned the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) should identify its officials responsible for the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated photographs within the voter register.
Atiku, in a press release by the Director, Strategic Communication, ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Phrank Shaibu, mentioned INEC’s admission that AI generated photos and different irregularities entered the voter register by means of its registration officers, is a scandal that strikes on the coronary heart of the fee’s credibility.
The former Vice President charged opposition leaders and the worldwide group to demand an impartial audit, full disclosure and accountability on the voter register scandal.
The ADC candidate, whereas accusing the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration of allegedly enabling the disaster by permitting INEC to evade scrutiny, acknowledged that the electoral umpire has no proper to demand belief whereas shielding these responsible for the infraction.
“INEC has admitted that some AI generated photos are on the voter register and that registration officers launched irregularities throughout the nation. The Commission charged with defending Nigerians’ votes has acknowledged that its personal system was abused by these entrusted to function it. This is a catastrophic failure of management and safeguards.
“Professor Joash Amupitan by means of Boyode Lawrence says INEC is aware of what its officers did and the way they tampered with the register, but claims it doesn’t know why. That is a disgraceful evasion, not a solution. Even bizarre WhatsApp, Facebook and e mail accounts seem to have stronger safety safeguards than these INEC’s ICT director described on nationwide tv. How can the database holding the votes of hundreds of thousands of Nigerians be much less safe than a private social media account?
“If INEC knows how the register was compromised, it must disclose the evidence, identify every officer involved and explain why they have not been suspended and prosecuted. Amupitan cannot admit the misconduct, withhold the perpetrators’ identities and expect Nigerians to accept ignorance as an excuse. He must account for this failure now,” Atiku acknowledged.
He acknowledged that INEC should not quietly ‘clean up’ the voter register and bury the proof, noting that allegations that greater than 20 million AI generated photos could also be concerned calls for an impartial forensic audit.
“INEC has no right to demand trust while concealing evidence and shielding those responsible. Name the culprits, expose the contractors and submit the register and election materials to independent scrutiny. Until then, its assurances are worthless. The credibility of the 2027 election is on the line.”
